Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology is one of the three leading methods of treating cancer together with surgical and systemic multidisciplinary treatments. Radiotherapy is usually used in conjunction with other methods but can also be used as a method of treatment on its own. In recent years, there have been great advances made in the equipment and applications of Radiation Oncology parallel to the developments in computerized technology. Sensitive yet precise treatments are made simpler through the use of computer supported dose intensive settings, robotic applications, and stereotactic radiation techniques. These techniques enable high doses of radiation to be directed at tumors while preserving the tolerance levels of healthy surrounding tissue. The realization of these two goals has also led to an increase in the quality of life for patients.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Acıbadem University Hospitals is equipped with state of the art technology and treatment devices. It is aimed for School of Medicine students to learn the physical and biological effects of radiation, radiotherapy applications and indications, identification of early or late side effects related to treatment and radiation injuries.
