Nursing Students from Acıbadem University Make a Difference with a Meaningful Social Responsibility Project
Fourth-year students from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing at Acıbadem University, as the “Changemakers+1” team, carried out a special social responsibility project in collaboration with the Down Syndrome Association. The “Cake Workshop,” held on December 20, 2024, aimed to support the active participation of individuals with Down syndrome in social life and to raise public awareness.
The event, organized at the Private Hilal Karadeniz Rehabilitation Center, brought together 9 nursing students and 4 individuals with Down syndrome to bake cakes and cupcakes. Throughout the workshop, participants not only had fun but also had the opportunity to improve their kitchen and fine motor skills.
The cakes and cupcakes made during the workshop were distributed free of charge at a stand set up in the neighborhood at the end of the day. In this way, not only the participants but also local community members were engaged in the project, helping to spread awareness more widely.
The event successfully addressed multiple goals, including the social integration of individuals with Down syndrome, the encouragement of their manual skills and creativity, the promotion of social sensitivity and responsibility awareness, as well as the learning of cake making and decorating techniques.
This meaningful project, voluntarily carried out by the “Changemakers+1” team, stood out as a model event, contributing to both personal development and social inclusion.
