As the Gender Equality Commission of Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University (TOCEK), we work to create an academic and professional environment free from gender-based violence and sexual harassment. We place the principle of respect for diversity—one of our university’s core values—at the center of our efforts and carry out initiatives to further strengthen this understanding. As TOCEK, we adopt as a fundamental principle that all students and employees of the university should not be subjected to discrimination on the grounds of differences such as gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Through the activities we have carried out to date, we have undertaken—and continue to undertake—work in the areas of raising awareness, situation assessment, prevention, remediation, and research.
As TOCEK, our priorities across the University Campus and all Training and Research Hospitals are to:
- Combat gender-based violence and discrimination that employees and students may encounter, and to establish the necessary institutional mechanisms to this end.
- Address discriminatory language and hate speech based on gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity directed at employees and students.
- Promote the development and dissemination of non-sexist language and attitudes (written, visual, and institutional); in this context, to ensure that all communication tools—especially course materials—are evaluated and reviewed from this perspective.
- ontribute to the development of policies that ensure gender balance among administrative and academic staff in all recruitment and appointment processes, and to plan initiatives that promote gender balance among those in managerial positions.
