Meal expenses for participants residing in Istanbul will also be covered within the same budget limits.
Purpose
This training program aims to increase the research motivation of undergraduate students in the health sciences, encourage their participation in TÜBİTAK funding programs, enhance their research proposal writing skills, and develop their ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. The program also seeks to provide participants with knowledge and practical guidance on career development, including curriculum vitae (CV) preparation and career planning.
Scope
The three-day training program consists of theoretical seminars in the morning sessions and hands-on project proposal writing workshops in the afternoon.
The theoretical sessions will cover topics including literature search strategies, critical appraisal of scientific articles, formulation of research questions and hypotheses, and key components of project proposal writing. Participants will learn how to prepare project titles, keywords, abstracts, statements of originality, objectives, methodology, project management plans, budgets, expected impact, project reports, and research outputs. The program will also include sessions on CV writing and national career development opportunities.
A total of 24 undergraduate students, including a limited number of participants from outside Istanbul, will attend the program. During the workshops, participants will be divided into three groups of eight students. Each group will be supervised by two faculty members and will participate in interactive project proposal writing exercises using the TÜBİTAK project application format.
Throughout the workshops, one instructor will be assigned to each subgroup to provide continuous guidance and answer participants' questions. The instructors will mentor students throughout the entire proposal development process, from identifying a research topic to completing a full project proposal.
The training will follow the structure of the TÜBİTAK 2209 Undergraduate Research Projects application form. Each section—including the project title, abstract, originality, methodology, project management, expected impact, and budget—will first be introduced through theoretical instruction and then reinforced through practical exercises. After refining their project ideas, each group will prepare the relevant sections of their proposal corresponding to the day's training topic.
Under the guidance of the instructors, participants will discuss best practices in proposal writing, identify common mistakes, and learn what information should and should not be included in a competitive research proposal.
As a result, participants will prepare a sample research proposal under the supervision and mentorship of experienced faculty members.
On the final day of the program, each group will present and defend its project proposal. The proposals will be evaluated by the instructors, who will provide constructive feedback and recommendations for improvement.
Participants will also take part in activities designed to strengthen their career development skills, including CV preparation and the preparation of academic outputs such as theses and research reports. In addition, the program will provide valuable networking opportunities by bringing together experts from different universities and diverse academic backgrounds.
