"Dr. Şinasi Can Medical Ethics Days 4: Health Education and Ethics Symposium" was held on December 13, 2025, in collaboration with Acıbadem Kadıköy Hospital and Acıbadem University. The symposium opened with speeches by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şahin, the Rector of Acıbadem University Rector, the Medical Director and Chief Physician Dr. Mustafa Candan, under the moderation of Dr. Şirin Parkan. By his talk on "Ethics Education in Health Professions," Prof. Dr. Nadi Bakırcı, the Dean of the School of Medicine, addressed the inherent aspects of ethics in health education in line with the concept of professionalism.
In her presentation titled "Why We Became Doctors: An Examplary Lesson from Acıbadem University CMPS Programeme," Prof. Dr. Pınar Topsever, analyzed the motivations of students choosing the medical profession, their choices, and expectations regarding medical education, based on course data in parallel with international literature. Through a framework of humanities Prof. Dr. Çağrı Kalaça, explored the new horizons that emerging technologies might bring to humanity and education by his speech on “Beyond Bioethics: A Hybrid Future”. Based mythological narratives, Dr. Berker Basmacı provided a striking example of philosophical inquiry that applies the tragic experiences of humans facing ethical dilemmas to medical practice by his paper called: "Antigone in the Emergency Room: the Use of Tragic Theatre in Medical Ethics Education."
In her paper titled "The Spiral Corridor in Medical Ethics/Bioethics Education: The Acıbadem University Experience," Prof. Dr. Yesim Isil Ulman defined ethics as the intellectual analysis of the moral aspects of human beings; a discipline that investigates the nature, prevalence, and diversity of moral life and behaviour, as a field of knowledge and skills related to professional values and universal principles in medical practice and clinical application. She elaborated ethics education as acquiring a systematic reasoning based on principles requiring the transformation of attitude and behaviors. She provided examples from courses at Acibadem University such as Medical Ethics and Humanities, Ethics Rounds and Clinical Ethics internships, Bioethics, and Research Ethics. The symposium concluded with lively discussions and Q&A.
