The Department of Ear-Nose-Throat of the School of Medicine at Acıbadem University was established in 2008. The department’s mission is to raise the standards of health through education, research and public services while offering state of the art technology to research and treat pediatric and adult cases of ear-nose-throat and head and neck diseases.
Acıbadem Atakent and Maslak (University Teaching Hospitals), Kadıköy, Bakırköy, Fulya, Bursa and Kozyatağı Hospitals where the university academic teaching staff are based feature modern diagnostic and treatment units. The hospitals are fully equipped with the multidisciplinary microscopes necessary for otology and neurotology surgery; endoscopic units for rhinology, and acoustic rhinometry and navigation systems. Robotic surgical systems are also in active use.
The Department works in collaboration with the departments of Radiation Oncology and the Radiology who perform Gamma-knife, cyber-knife, intraoperative 3 tesla MRI, and intraoperative RT. There are fully equipped audiology units which work in collaboration with the department. These units comprise balance centers where all types of vestibular assessments including ENG, computerized dynamic posturography (CDP), videonystagmography, and VEMP can be carried out. The Audiology units perform audiological assessments including ABR testing, pediatric audiometry, and otoacoustic emission. Hearing aids, implanted hearing aids, and cochlear implants (bionic ears) are all implemented using state of the art technology. Outpatient clinics are also equipped with units where minor interventions can be performed including endoscopic diagnosis, videolaryngostroboscopy, endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES/FEESST), and otomicroscopy.
Hospitals treat patients with speech and swallowing difficulties in collaboration with speech and language pathologists. Patients who visit the outpatient clinics are treated in the most effective manner. Hospitals offer a wide range of surgeries including head-neck tumor surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, chronic otitis and otosclerosis surgery, thyroid surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, endoscopic skull base surgery, snoring-sleep apnea treatment and surgery, maxillofacial trauma surgery, adenotonsillectomy, septoplasty and septorinoplasty, cochlear implants, adult and pediatric airway surgery, and microtia repair.
