The laboratory's research activities were initiated by Eda Tahir Turanlı in 2001 at Boğaziçi University and later continued in 2005 at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at İstanbul Technical University (2021). Since 2021, Prof. Eda Tahir Turanlı has served as the Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Acıbadem University.
The research conducted by Prof. Tahir Turanlı and her team focuses on the genetics and epigenetics of neurological and autoinflammatory diseases. In particular, the team identifies candidate genes in familial cases through genomic sequencing/genotyping and bioinformatics analyses, followed by functional characterization of genetic variants using cell culture models. IMGAL’s primary research areas are Multiple Sclerosis and Rare Autoinflammatory Diseases.
IMGAL conducts research in the field of human molecular genetics with the aim of identifying the genetic defects underlying diseases. Based at Acıbadem University, the laboratory collaborates with national and international institutions, including İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Marmara University, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Virginia Commonwealth University.
