Psychosocial Care Symposium-I Was Held

The Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University, in collaboration with Acıbadem Healthcare Group Altunizade Hospital, organized the “Psychosocial Care Symposium-I: The Silent Aspect of Illness – Psychosocial Care in Physical Health Problems” on October 10–11, 2025, at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital.

The aim of the symposium was to emphasize the importance of holistic care for patients and families experiencing physical health problems and to strengthen nurses and healthcare professionals working in the field of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatric Nursing (CLPN).

During the event, topics such as “Psychosocial Care from Different Perspectives: Patient, Family, and Healthcare Professional,” “The Mind–Body Connection: CLPN,” “From Loss to Empowerment: A Holistic Approach to Grief,” “Beyond the Body: The Importance of Psychosocial Approaches in Hospitals,” and “Self-Care and Psychological Resilience in Nursing” were discussed.

A total of 97 participants attended the symposium, where experts in psychosocial care and consultation-liaison psychiatric nursing shared their knowledge and experiences.

The speakers included Prof. Dr. Figen İnci, Prof. Dr. F. Yasemin Kutlu, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Okanlı, Prof. Dr. Nazmiye Yıldırım, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Pehlivan Sarıbudak, Asst. Prof. Dr. Behice Belkıs Çalışkan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Deniz Kaya Meral, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nermin Ocaktan, Asst. Prof. Dr. İrem Özel, Dr. Nesiba Kalyoncu, Lecturer Tülay Demiray, Specialist Nurse Ayşin Kayış, Specialist Saliha Koç Aslan, Specialist Nurse Gülçin Sertbaş, Arzu Karataş, Serpil Sarıaydın, Nurse Aylin Çiçek, and Nurse Begümnur Kılıç.

The symposium highlighted the importance of evaluating patients not only in terms of their physical conditions but also from psychosocial and emotional perspectives. Participants discussed the challenges faced by nurses and healthcare professionals working with patients suffering from conditions such as cancer and organ transplantation, as well as potential solutions to these challenges.

Issues such as compassion fatigue and burnout among healthcare workers were also addressed, with interactive “role-playing techniques” demonstrating effective coping and resilience strategies.

The event brought together Nursing Department alumni as speakers, and second-, third-, and fourth-year nursing students as attendees, creating a productive and engaging academic environment. The symposium concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers.
