Acıbadem University Nursing Department students made a meaningful contribution to environmental awareness and advocacy efforts for children and young people under protective care through their participation in the Istanbul Marathon Participation Event, held on November 2, 2025.
The event was organized by Nursing Department students who volunteer with the Hayat Sende Association—Merve Yetiş, İrem Akpınar, Ezgi Ay, Ebru Çetin, Mehmetcan Atay, Efe Koçak, and Ömer Turan—and with the Çöpüne Sahip Çık Association—Merve Yağmur Kayım, Zeynep Güner, Ebrar Elanur Köse, Nehir Karadeniz, and Elif Duru.
The primary aim of the event was to raise public awareness about environmental protection and the sustainability of ecological balance, highlight the needs of children and young people growing up under protective care, and motivate participants running for charity.
During the morning gathering, students met with members of the associations they volunteer with as well as students from various universities, introduced themselves, and provided information about the goals they aimed to achieve within the scope of their Social Sensitivity Project course. After accompanying the marathon start, the students crossed to the opposite shore by ferry to greet the runners at the designated area. They later joined the runner group at the Beşiktaş side of the bridge and continued walking along Yıldız Street.
A noteworthy moment of the event was when artist Wilma Elles, who was among the charity fundraisers, joined the students during the walk. The day continued with the medal ceremony held for the volunteers running on behalf of the Hayat Sende Association, some of whom received rankings.
The event successfully contributed to increasing awareness about environmental protection and strengthening support and donation motivation for children and young people under protective care.
