Nursing Students Informed About Professional Organizations and Membership Processes

The event titled “Introduction to Professional Organizations and Membership Processes,” organized by the Social and Scientific Events Committee of the Department of Nursing at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Faculty of Health Sciences, was held online via Zoom on Monday, April 13, 2026. Bringing together approximately 100 nursing students, the event focused on the importance of professional organization and the activities of the Turkish Nurses Association (THD).

The speakers of the event included Assoc. Prof. Azize Atlı Özbaş, President of the Turkish Nurses Association; Prof. Dr. Esra Uğur, President of the THD Istanbul Anatolian Side Branch; and Assoc. Prof. Sevim Şen Olgay, Board Member of the THD Istanbul Anatolian Side Branch.

During the program, Assoc. Prof. Azize Atlı Özbaş delivered a comprehensive presentation on the historical development of professional organization in nursing, the vision and mission of the Turkish Nurses Association, advocacy activities carried out at national and international levels, and detailed information regarding student membership procedures.

Prof. Dr. Esra Uğur and Assoc. Prof. Sevim Şen Olgay also shared insights into branch-level activities and emphasized the contribution of student commissions to professional development. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session in which students addressed topics related to membership processes, professional rights, and the significance of organized professional structures.

Receiving significant interest from students, the event served as a productive platform that supported the professional identity development of nursing students and strengthened awareness of professional solidarity within the nursing community.
