The events organized within the scope of March 14 Medicine Day were held this year at the Acıbadem University Conference Hall under the theme “From Art to Medicine.”
““The program began with an opening address by the Dean of the School of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Nadi Bakırcı. Emphasizing the meaning and significance of March 14, our Dean subsequently presented certificates of recognition, as in previous years, to students who were named to the ‘Dean’s List’ and to those who contributed to the advancement of medical education.
Following the award ceremony, in the first part of the event, photographer Merih Akoğul, in his presentation titled “Let There Be Health,” shared the iconic photo series created by W. Eugene Smith for Life magazine. This series, which has become a landmark in the history of world photography, documented the daily lives of a physician, a nurse, and a community volunteer working in different parts of the world. Through his presentation, Akoğul offered a distinctive perspective on the medical profession in honor of Medicine Day, providing the audience with a compelling visual narrative through the photographs he presented.
As part of the program, an exhibition featuring wooden artworks by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aktekin, a faculty member of the Department of Anatomy at our School of Medicine, attracted significant attention. The works, highlighting the intersection of art and anatomy, were highly appreciated by participants.
The event also featured an exhibition by Dr. Kürşad Korkmaz, a graduate of our School of Medicine (Class of 2019) who is currently continuing his Emergency Medicine residency training. His collection—particularly produced during the pandemic period—consists of caricature interpretations of original works by world-renowned painters and drew considerable interest by offering visitors a distinctive and engaging perspective.
The event concluded with a jazz concert featuring the unique piano performance of artist Selen Gülün.
