Forensic Nursing and Forensic Psychiatric Nursing Seminar Held

On March 12, 2026, the Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Forensic Sciences and Criminology Club organized the “Forensic Nursing and Forensic Psychiatric Nursing Seminar” with the participation of students and faculty members. The event brought together 24 participants interested in learning more about these specialized fields of nursing.

Prof. Dr. Yasemin Kutlu (Department of Nursing, Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University) delivered a comprehensive presentation covering the fundamental concepts, practice areas, and professional roles of forensic nursing and forensic psychiatric nursing. The seminar included discussions on the definition and scope of forensic nursing, the institutions where forensic nurses work, and the characteristics of crime and criminal behavior, with an emphasis on the biopsychosocial factors influencing criminal behavior.

The session also addressed forensic psychiatric nursing, focusing on its definition, core responsibilities, and clinical roles. Particular attention was given to patient care responsibilities, safety, ethics, and communication. Findings from a qualitative study on the role perceptions of forensic psychiatric nurses were shared, highlighting current discussions on professional identity, role ambiguity, and practice areas.

The seminar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, providing participants with the opportunity to deepen their understanding, exchange views, and gain insights into these specialized nursing fields.
