Fourth-year students of Acıbadem University’s Nursing Department carried out a meaningful social responsibility activity as part of their course project. The event titled “Awareness Through Braille: Breast Health Education for Visually Impaired Women” was held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, by the Braille Eli Team—Hiranur Tazan, Seher Canlı, Gökçe Ulucan, Hümeyra Yoğurtçu, and Nisa Çeker—who are also volunteers at the Six Dots Association for the Blind, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Bahire Ulus.

The aim of the event was to increase breast health awareness and knowledge of breast self-examination (BSE) among women registered with the association. A total of 29 participants attended the program. With the coordination of the association’s president, Hülya Vural, participants were safely transported from their homes to the event venue.

The program started with a breakfast prepared by the students, providing a warm and friendly environment where participants had the chance to chat and socialize. Following the breakfast, Assoc. Prof. Bahire Ulus answered questions about breast health, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and women becoming familiar with their own bodies through regular check-ups.

After the discussion session, Nursing Department student and Six Dots Association volunteer Hiranur Tazan delivered an educational session on breast health. During the session, the steps of Breast Self-Examination were explained in detail. To support accessibility for visually impaired individuals, Braille-encoded QR cards were distributed, allowing participants to revisit the educational content at any time.

At the end of the event, participants stated that their awareness of early diagnosis, regular health screenings, and the importance of BSE had increased. Designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind, this social responsibility initiative provided meaningful support in enhancing the health literacy of visually impaired women and was met with great appreciation.
