Pharmaceutical Microbiology

Acibadem University Faculty of Pharmacology, Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology was founded in 2016.

Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology is part of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences Department of Acibadem University Faculty of Pharmacology. Pharmaceutical Microbiology is a field of microbiology science. In this field of science, structures of microorganisms which cause infection in human, the diseases caused by these microorganisms and the microbiological methods used for the diagnosis of these diseases, are studied. The areas of study in pharmaceutical microbiology are investigation and production of antimicrobial agents and microbial-originated products, resistance development against antimicrobial products, sterilized preparation of pharmaceutical products, utilization of microorganisms for the detection of medications’ mutagenic and carcinogenic activities, and utilization of microorganisms for the production of vaccinations and hormones.

Pharmaceutical microbiology education aims to teach major microorganism species’ functions, host defense mechanism, infectious diseases’ pathogenicity and epidemiology, disinfectants, antiseptics, antimicrobials, antimicrobial resistance development, rational consumption of antibiotics, sterilization methods, aseptic product preparation methods, clean room technology, good production practices.
