History of Pharmacology

Acibadem University Faculty of Pharmacy, History and Deontology (Ethics) of Pharmacology Department was founded in 2016. History of pharmacology course has been in the cirriculum since the first years of pharmaceutical faculties’ establishment. Some institutions offer history and ethics subjects within the same course, whereas some others teach them separately.

It is extremely important to know a profession’s history to build up that profession’s future vision.

In Acibadem University, some history of pharmacology courses are taught together with medical history and ethics. Starting from the times when pharmacology was separated from medicine, development of the profession has been presented to the students with different perspective. Visiting old pharmacies and pharmacy museums in our country, meetings with pharmacists, sharing acquired information, reviewing memoirs and valuable pharmaceutical documentaries also contribute to instillation of history love and mentality to students.

The goal is to compose a joint ethical behavior mentality by studying bioethics and pharmaceutical deontology topics by way of case studies. All necessary notions in regards to providing considerate service to environment, colleagues and patients are conveyed through courses.

Ethical Case applications are picked extremely carefully since they prepare students for their actual professional life; they are taught in adequate length of time and spans for major part of the course. Providing history and ethics courses for pharmacists, who prioritize humanitarian values as health services providers, has an important role to fulfill Acibadem University Faculty of Pharmacology’s mission.
