Acıbadem University School of Medicine Scientific Research Society (ACUTBAT) is one of our university's most established and dynamic student organizations. It brings together future physicians who view medical education beyond theoretical knowledge and aim to be at the heart of scientific discovery. Entirely student-led, ACUTBAT is dedicated to transforming academic curiosity into action and preparing medical students to become influential "physician-scientists" in the future of global healthcare.
Our journey began in 2012 under the name ABAK (Acıbadem University Scientific Research Club). In its early years, the club stood out by organizing surgical suturing workshops, forensic medicine field trips, and article-sharing meetings within our university hospitals. In 2015, the organization underwent a major transformation, adopting the name ACUTBAT and expanding its vision. It evolved from a social event-based club into a central academic hub that teaches scientific methodology, hosts student-centered journal clubs, and integrates medical education with the international research ecosystem.
Since its inception, ACUTBAT has encouraged students to think deeper, research further, and discover more. We serve as a guide for students to maintain their passion for science amidst the intensive pace of medical school. Through our various interest groups and research committees, we provide a platform for every student to explore their specific fields of interest.
What Awaits You at ACUTBAT?
📑 Article Hours: These student-led sessions involve the analysis of selected publications from current medical literature. Participants develop their understanding of scientific methodology and enhance their critical appraisal skills through peer-to-peer learning.
😷 Surgical Observation Days: Offering a unique opportunity to observe surgical specialties and hospital discipline first-hand, this program provides field experience where theoretical knowledge meets clinical practice.
🏛️ Congresses and Symposia: Students gain the chance to work behind the scenes of major academic events, most notably SITS, by taking part in the management and organizational processes of scientific meetings throughout the year.
🎙️ Academic Talks: These meetings with our university's esteemed faculty members provide students with the opportunity to benefit from their professional experiences and gain a broader academic vision.
✍️ Journal and Weekly Blogs: You can contribute to our publication platforms, where you can write about the latest developments in the medical world while honing your editorial and academic writing skills.
🔍 Research Groups: These committees bring students together based on their specific interests in various medical branches. They are structured to conduct collaborative projects, track current literature, and transform scientific curiosity into tangible academic work.
