Introduction to CTR Prediction and Research Directions

Summary: Advertisement recommendation systems are now widely used whenever we surf the web, watch videos online, and purchase items, and they can also be used to recommend books and movies to users. We describe the task of click-through rate prediction and various research tasks about predicting the click-through rate. We present our solutions spanning machine learning, deep learning, and better prediction models. 

Bio: Ergun Biçici received the B.S. degree from Bilkent University in 2000 and M.S. degree from North Carolina State University in 2002. He graduated from the PhD program in Computer Sciences and Engineering at Koç University, Istanbul, Turkey in 2011. From 2012 to 2015 he was a post-doctoral researcher at the ADAPT Research Center, Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland. From 2015 to 2016 he was a research scientist at DFKI, Germany. From 2017 to 2018 he was a researcher at TÜBİTAK. From 2018 to 2021 he was a research scientist at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey. Since 2022, he has been a senior AI research engineer at Huawei Turkey R&D Center. He is the author of more than 60 publications. His research interests include machine translation, machine learning, natural language processing, cloud computing, recommendation systems, and artificial intelligence.
