The event titled "Rare Immune System Diseases in the Period of Pandemic" organized by Acıbadem University Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs Application and Research Center (ACURARE) and Acıbadem University Rare Diseases Club took place online on February 28, 2021.
Held by our Faculty of Medicine Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Genetics, and Pediatric Genetic Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Yasemin Alanay’s opening speech.
Then the Director of ACURARE and our Head of the Medical Genetics Department of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Uğur Özbek gave information about the İSTisNA Project and the outputs of the project. During the event, Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Specialist Prof.Dr. Elif Aydıner Karakoç and Pediatric Rheumatology and Child Health and Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Özgür Kasapçopur shared his experiences during the pandemic. In particular, they explained how individuals with rare diseases undergo these processes through the eyes of the physician and with their scientific outputs. All participants, especially individuals with rare diseases and patient relatives, interactively conveyed their questions to the speakers.
The event continued with School of Medicine, the department of Medical History and Ethics faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Artvinli's speech in which he evaluated pandemics and institutional memories in terms of medical history. Finally, Elif Öz, Vice President of ACU Nadir Student Club, talked about the Rare Diseases Student Club and the Rare Music project.
