Webinars organized by the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Medical Engineering, with the participation of different subjects and speakers from the world of science, were also held in March.
"Password determination and storage recommendations in internet use"
The webinar, with one of the faculty members of Medical Engineering department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Buğrahan Bayram as a speaker, took place on March 4, 2021. In the webinar; Internet security, education, banking, shopping, entertainment, etc. determining and storing passwords in internet usage were discussed. Participants also learned about free, reliable, and easily accessible examples of password determination and storage methods.
“Robinson - Trautman Spacetimes in Brans-Dicke Gravity”
The webinar in which Dr. Yorgo Şenikoğlu was a speaker, took place on March 16, 2021. In the webinar; The Brans-Dicke theory was discussed.
Yorgo Şenikoğlu completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Université de Paris and Boğaziçi University. He is currently working with Prof. Dr. T. Dereli in the physics department at Koç University, and has been teaching General Relativity, Differential Geometry and Mass Courses at Boğaziçi University since February 2017. His research interests are based on mathematical physics, generalized theories of gravity, gravitational waves, and black holes.
“Big Data: Characteristics, Challenges, Tools”
The webinar, in which Dr. Özgür Doğan Şahin was a speaker, took place on March 25, 2021. In the webinar; Big Data, which is trying to extract valuable information from data and increasing volumes and data sources, which is one of the most valuable resources in the world, was discussed. Dr. Şahin talked about the main features of big data and the difficulties associated with it. He also talked about some open source tools to tackle these challenges.
Dr. Özgür Doğan Şahin received his bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Bilkent University in 2001 and his doctorate in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2005. Having returned to Turkey, Dr. Şahin currently works for a software company where he leads a team to build scalable data integration and processing lines.
“Classifying Educational Texts in Low-Resource Languages”
The webinar, in which Assist. Prof. Dr. Onur Güzey was a speaker, took place on March 25, 2021. In the webinar; Classification of educational materials was discussed. Güzey mentioned that education classification can be difficult in low source languages due to the lack of appropriate tools and adequately labeled data and added that to overcome this problem, a cross-language classification method can be used to classify in many low-source languages, which uses resources created in a single high-source language, such as English.
Asisst. Prof. Dr. Onur Güzey completed his undergraduate education in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. He also completed his postgraduate education at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Having completed his MBA at MIT, Cambridge, Güzey worked at Intel in the USA, 2008-2010, and OakNorth, UK, 2017-2021. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department of Istanbul Şehir University in 2013-2017. His research interests include Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing applications and productization in Finance.
“Data Science in Search Marketing”
The webinar, in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bulut was a speaker, took place on March 18, 2021. In the webinar; search engine advertising was discussed. Bulut talked about advertising to the right user at the right time, the basics of search advertising, and the main research problems we have tackled over the past decade.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bulut graduated from Bilkent University Computer Engineering Department in 2000. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2005. Between 2005-2010, he worked at Citrix as a research engineer and as a specialist researcher at Like.com. Between 2010 and 2020, he worked as a full-time faculty member and Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Istanbul Şehir University.
“Data-Driven Test Optimization”
The webinar, in which Assist. Prof. Dr. Barış Arslan was a speaker, took place on March 23, 2021. In the webinar the discussion topics were Data-driven approach and research aspects were discussed to address simultaneous demand for high quality and low cost in IC testing, which is an important part of overall product cost.
Barış Arslan completed his undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering at Bilkent University and his graduate education at the University of California, San Diego, and worked at Intel, Marvell Semiconductor and Qualcomm in the USA between 2005-2013. He also worked as an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at Istanbul Şehir University. His research interests include the application of Machine Learning / Data Analytics in various fields such as IC Testing, Finance and Domain Assessment.
