Ceyhun Ekrem Kirimli graduated from the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department of Bogazici University. He worked on Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy during his Masters in the same university. He, then received a full scholarship form the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems. During his PhD, he specialized in the development of Piezoelectric Plate Sensor (PEPS), which is a successor of Piezoelectric Mirocantilever Sensor (PEMS). He published several research articles on early diagnosis of cancer types from patient urine samples via PEPS and is one of the inventors of an International Patent on PEPS. He did research on development of a Galvanostat/Potetiostat assisted Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy system in Lakehead University as a Post Doctoral researcher. He received a Reintegration Research Fellowship under the Reverse Brain Drain Programme of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.
