Pharmacognosis

When we review pharmacology history, we see that it is integrated with pharmacognosis. In addition to being one of the core disciplines in pharmacology education, it involves analysis of naturally-resourced medicine raw materials and also chemical, pharmacological and cultural study of these biologically-oriented substances, which are used in treatment and prevention of diseases. Besides being related to scientific or traditional treatment methods, such as phytotherapy, aromatherapy, homoeopathy, pharmacognosis also pertains to substances and products that are used in folkloric medicine.

Areas of Study:

Naturally-resourced medicine raw materials, active ingredient isolation and structure determination, biological activity and activity lead isolation studies, analytical pharmacognosis (quality control operations), morphological and anatomical analysis of drugs, tissue culture studies.
